Fascinating facts about Turks & Caicos
The St. Barts runway
St. Barts Airport (SBH) has one of the shortest commercial runways in the world: just 640 meters. Only certified pilots can land there, descending over a hill and braking right by the beach.
The Bahamas sandbanks
The Exumas are home to the famous "swimming pigs" — pigs that swim in crystal-clear waters on a deserted island. A unique phenomenon accessible only by boat or private plane.
Turks & Caicos and salt
The name "Turks" comes from the term for the cactus in the shape of a Turkish turban that covered the islands. "Caicos" means "islands" in the original TaÃno language.
